If you are an author you want people to read your book . I hope people both read and are entertained by our books. In order for people to read your book you need reviews, hopefully good reviews. Now we all know what Abe Lincoln said...."you can't please all of the people all of the time". An author I know tweeted that he had just had a mean , nasty review. I tweeted to him that constructive criticism was one thing but being mean and nasty was another.Therfore I told him not to pay any attention to that person. He said I was very kind. Nope I was just telling him how I felt. Now when we are the object of that mean, nasty review......well not so easy is it? I don't know about other authors, but I LIKE our book. I like our characters. I am invested in them. We wrote our book the way we did on purpose. We had a plan. We had a tone we meant to set........ Barbara Mertz aka Elizabeth Peters and Barbara Michaels is one of my favorite authors. Depending on which name she writes under and series she is writing she sets a certain tone. Now my personal favorite is the Amelia Peabody series. That series makes me laugh out loud every time I read it! Often though I would wonder how many people would understand her humor (I know some who just don't get it). What I am trying to say is, my book and your book is not everyone's cup of tea and that's okay. There is an audience for everyone. Everyone needs constructive criticism. I don't mean "quit writing",that's mean and nasty. I mean things like "you need more character development" etc. So if someone assasinates your work just remember that an assasin is doing it........that wasn't your target audience anyway, right? ........blog later.....Joan
